






The
DAI envisions a community in which all childbearing women shall have access to
doula care. Doulas will be acknowledged as members of the maternity care team
whose sole role is to help ensure that the emotional and physical comfort needs
of childbearing women are met.
We at the Doula Association of Ireland understand that one of the most basic and important needs of the birthing woman is to feel safe and secure, and to have trust and confidence in the people around her at this special time. We also strive to promote a positive working relationship with our midwifery and medical colleagues. Each member of the Doula Association of Ireland has therefore given a written commitment to adhering to our code of ethics which details the responsibilities of our members in their working practice.
Furthermore in order to provide additional accountability, each member is also bound by our complaints and disciplinary procedure. In the event that a member of the public or health professional has a complaint, they may address their concerns in writing to:

Associate Members
Individuals who are not doulas but support the work of the Association and wish to keep up to date with doula developments in Ireland are welcome to join as Associate Members for a fee of €25. Please contact the secretary for further information.

Voluntary Work
Many of our members carry out some voluntary work or provide services for reduced rates. If you are interested in hiring a doula or know of someone who could benefit from doula care but are financially constrained, then this may be an option for you/them. Please contact the Association for further information and a list of volunteer doulas.
